The Overture Search Tool - Going
It appears that the Overture Search Tool will soon be a tool of the past.
Long considered the most foundational keyword research tool available, this Web-based application was free and allowed anyone who wanted to use it access to such valuable information as how many times in the previous month a keyword was searched for across the Yahoo network. Even more important for Internet marketers, it delivered up to 100 derivatives of a keyword as well. This made it easy for a user to drill down in search of long-tail keywords that were less likely to be targeted by others yet were still drawing a small number of searches each month.
It should be interesting to see the impact of the loss of the Overture Search Tool, since many keyword programs and tools relied on it for their own data. I suspect things will naturally shake out over the next few months and adjustments will be made.
In the meantime, what should you do? Keywords essentially drive the Internet.
Fortunately, there are services out there that don’t rely on data from the Overture Search Tool. One of the most valuable, and most reasonably priced, is WordTracker. I use it, and there’s nothing I’ve found that’s better for keyword research.
In the future, we’ll explore keywords and what they mean to your business in more depth. But in the meantime, if you’ve ever wondered how the pros use WordTracker to keep their sites at the top of the search engine results pages and what can you learn from their methods, WordTracker has developed a free e-book packed with insights, tips, and techniques on keyword research that you can apply easily to your own website. You can get your free copy here: Keyword Research Guide.
And try the free WordTracker trial here: WordTracker Trial

The other tools worth using include:
Google Free via their AdWords program. Does not provide search counts, but a good tool to get keyword suggestions.
KeywordDiscovery.com This tool is like WordTracker but has lots more keyword data and even more features. It has a free trial as well.
