Google Slaps Squidoo
We’ve talked about what a great resource Squidoo can be. Putting together a Squidoo lens is relatively easy and Google has been a big fan of Squidoo pages, often placing them high in the organic search rankings for specific keywords. Which is what makes Squidoo such a great resource for Internet marketers.
Well, when something good comes along, word travels and everyone and his brother jumps into the mix. This has happened in the past as well. Remember those massive, automated, content-lacking Adsense sites? In this instance, spammers quickly jumped into Squidoo and instead of building a solid lens, they quickly threw up as many lenses as possible, primarily worthless (many empty, in fact), just to get a good position in the rankings for redirects.
They haven’t spoiled it for everyone, but they have apparently caught the attention of Google.
It’s not a complete disaster. You may not have even noticed a change in your keyword rankings. But it does appear Google is catching onto the garbage and doing what it can to weed it out. As long as you continue to build solid, information-packed lenses, you should be fine.
If you haven’t given Squidoo a shot yet, stop by and check out the site. In fact, build your first lens. You’ll enjoy the process and it’s a skill you can return to again and again.
